While the earth remains, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, summer and winter, day and night, shall not cease. Genesis 8:22
Fall is here. Ahh, at last the season changes. And it is welcomed with open arms as the cooler temperatures soothe our souls with its cool breezes. Fall - harvest time. There are so many practical lessons to be learned. Just look around. In our rural community, you see the evidence of harvest everywhere. Corn especially is being harvested in fields along the highways. We share the road with Big Tractors and Combines going to and from farmers’ fields. We will all benefit from the planting and hard, diligent work done in the fields. At our house a favorite is fresh cornbread made with home-ground cornmeal from fresh harvested corn. But most of the time we don’t give much thought to what all it took to get it to this point while we are smearing butter on a big, hot piece fresh from the oven. Reminds me of the children’s book, “The Little Red Hen”.
Since it is Pastor Appreciation Month, let’s equate harvest time to our beloved Pastor, Bro. Clyde. I fear we don’t give enough thought to how much we all benefit from his hard, diligent work done in the fields. All the phone calls, visits and prayers. And it’s a lot!!! He amazes me at how he “notices” each of us with his loving eyes and heart. His flock. We are the flock that God has entrusted to him and he watches over us like a hawk – I mean like a good shepherd should. Every Sunday morning, he is standing at the door to greet and welcome us anticipating our arrival. We are very blessed because of his love and care. The special bond our church family has is not an accident. A fellow member just told me last week that she has never been in a church that is like a family. But, let’s face it, guiding sheep can be messy. Yes, there are many workers that take care of a multitude of duties that also go unnoticed, but you know what they say, “the buck stops at the top”. And that’s Bro. Clyde Stevens.
And then there’s Mrs. Wanda. She must take care of Bro. Clyde and talk about hard work and diligence. Well…
We love you Bro. Clyde and Wanda! Thank you for all you do for our Salem family.
He who supplies seed to the sower and bread for food will supply and multiply your seed for sowing and increase the harvest of your righteousness. 2 Corin 9:10
